According to Drapers, the organisation is looking for a sponsor after it got the go-ahead to submit a formal bid for the space.

Should plans go ahead, the one million sq ft site, located in the Olympic complex in east London, would be home to a range of facilities for fashion skills training, manufacturing and trade.

These would come under four key areas, Learn, Do, Show and See.

Gavin Ambrose, UK Fashion Hub spokesman, said: “It is very apt that we are talking about training opportunities for young people given the situation with the recent riots.

“Training people in the skills to work in the fashion sector presents a raft of different opportunities for young people.”

The UK Fashion Hub was established to provide structure and support to the UK fashion industry, allowing it to compete on an international level.

It provides a platform for manufacturers, importers and exporters to facilitate economic growth and employment, while also connecting education with the industry.

New York based firm REX ARCHITECTURE P.C., an internationally renowned architecture and design firm, recently completed two office buildings, where one is build inside the other in Istanbul, Turkey.

The design was created for two Turkish sister companies: fashion house Vakko, and television and radio company Power Media.

The outer building is adapted from the concrete structure of an abandoned hotel project on the site and surrounds the second structure on all sides.

The outer building contains standard offices, while the inner structure houses an auditorium, showrooms, meeting rooms and executive offices, as well as vertical circulation. The result is a unique example of adaptive reuse, and a new architectural landmark for Turkey.

The plans to transform the 2012 Olympic Media and Broadcast Centre into a UK Fashion Hub, which I have revealed exclusively in this weeks Estates Gazette, certainly seem to tick all the right boxes.

It has long been the aim of the OPLC and the Government to see the 2012 Olympics media and broadcast centre turned into a creative employment hub with thousands of job opportunities.

Hackey Wick Mayor Jules Pipe is quoted on Hackey council’s website as saying: “We welcome the ongoing commitment to refining the Media Press Centre design and finish to ensure a building of quality that can become the home for creative industries in legacy.”

And prime minister David Cameron has an ambition to create a Tech City “bringing together the creativity and energy of Shoreditch and the incredible possibilities of the Olympic Park to help make east London one of the world’s great technology centres.”

So let’s assess the bid…

Will it create jobs? Yes, 3,000 in fact, as well as a host of apprenticeships and education opportunities.

Will it be creative? It is about building a hub for UK fashion industry, which is worth £21bn a year to the UK economy. It is an industry in which the UK is a global leader in terms of creativity and success.

And what about fitting in with Mr Cameron’s “Tech City” idea? Well, the manufacturing jobs will be high-tech fast turn-around fashion manufacturing for the likes of online retailer ASOS. Meanwhile there is a 106,500 sq ft e-tailing centre for the development of apps and other technology.

In a week where phone hacking is occupying most people’s attention this bid may not get the attention it deserves, but watch this space…
